Barbera is grown widely in Piemonte in the north of Italy, and there are two towns that specialise: Alba and Asti. Barbera d’Alba is a rich and velvety style, while Barbera d’Asti is brisker and fruitier – so Asti fits the brief for a springtime red. A great wine to go with pizza.

Wine CategoryMedium-bodied, juicy, soft reds

Tasting NotesLightly spiced berry fruits, raspberries and blackberries, all freshly squished. It has higher acidity than a classic Barbera; the tannins are soft and gentle, but present. Rounded, soft and approachable. Has some persistence of flavour, and certainly enough alcohol, which gently warms the finish.
